WHAT STYLE OF KUNG FU ?

Many people are under the impression that Kung Fu originated with the Shaolin Temple, It did not. The Chinese Martial Arts were well developed before the Temple was built in the third century.
For over a thousand years, the shaolin temple was the main centre for the development of martial arts in China. The tried and tested techniques of the shaolin monks were based on five animals: the Dragon, Tiger, Snake, Crane and the Leopard. These are sometimes referred to as the ' Five Ancestors ' of Kung Fu.
When the Ching Dynasty came to power in the 18th century, they feared the power of such a formidable force and sent an army to attack the temple;
many of the monks were killed and the rest fled.
Following the dispersal of the shaolin monks, the styles taught and practised by each monk developed slightly different, hence the reason there are many different styles around today.

We will be teaching Kung Fu based on the Lau Gar system.
